As an experienced reporter, my investigations put people at the center and hold institutions accountable.
I have worked at USA TODAY as an Investigative Reporter and Consumer Watchdog, where I reported on failing Samsung refrigerators, data collection, bank fraud, and corporate responsibility when workers commit crimes in a consumer’s home. With a team of investigative reporters, I looked into North Carolina’s youth psychiatric facilities, where public records revealed how children were mistreated. Known as the “Locked Away” series, it resulted in a federal class action lawsuit against the state of North Carolina.
Prior to national reporting, I covered health, crime, wildfires, local government, faith, and race for Record Searchlight in Redding, California and have been awarded fellowships with the American Political Science Association in Washington, D.C. and Global Health Corps in Uganda. I am also former nurse with experience in hospice, home health, nursing homes and San Quentin State Prison.
I am based in California, grew up in Los Angeles and Punjab, and am fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.
